Committee Members: Sheila Gardiner, Carolyn Mehus, Barb Bierstedt
People of Zion: We select people from Zion that we want to recognize and our member to learn a little more about them. We interview them, write it up and pass it along to Jackie. She prints it out, makes a copy of their picture from the directory or we give her a picture, she then posts it on the bulletin board in the fellowship area. This year we recognized Tim Sprengeler and Daniel Gast. Some members of our congregation felt that this was singling out people, so we will give it a break for now.
Greeters/Welcome Center: We called the greeters that agreed to greet for 2015 to see if they were willing to continue for 2016. Bonnie Guetzlaff has volunteered to keep the Welcome Center stocked with cups, pencils and keep it looking nice.
Shut In's: Zion members that cannot regularly attend regular worship receive a birthday card around their birthday. Cindy Miehe made the cards this year for each member. Dar places them out on a table before their birthday for the congregation to sign. Then the card is mailed out to the member by their special day. We created our own card with a photo of Zion on the front, this way we will not need to purchase birthday cards and the cards are available for others to use.
Trunk or Treat: The trunks in our parking lot continue to decrease. There were eight trunkers in 2015 and 576 treaters.
Cradle Roll: We follow the newly baptized child from baptism through three years with a card on the anniversary of their baptism. Then their name is given to the head person of Sunday school for them to invite the child to attend Sunday school. Bonnie Guetzlaff enjoyed doing this duty when she was on the committee and wants to continue doing it.
We furnish 26 centerpieces for the County View nursing home two times a year. In March we made 44 spring wreaths for the residents to hang on their doors. We delivered the wreathes to them and they really liked them.
We place advertisement in the Waterloo/Cedar Falls Courier for special times through the year.
